How to Prep for Waxing

Skin & Hair:  You need about a 1/4 inch of hair growth to ensure the best results from a wax. This can take anywhere from one to two weeks of staying razor-free before your appointment.n Do not book an appointment you have irritated or sunburned skin (ouch!). Avoid using any lotions or creams, which can make the hair slick and prevent the wax from connecting.

Exfoliate:  The spa carries Eminence sugar scrubs, which are completely organic and chemical free.  Sugar scrubs or dry brushes can be used 24 hours before a wax to prevent ingrown hairs. Once the hair starts to grow back, they can also be used to exfoliate the skin.  Facial waxing should not be treated with a sugar scrub, as the skin is too delicate for the intense exfoliation.

Keep It Up: Your hair grows in different cycles.  Some hair may be too short to remove during your first appointment.  Refrain from shaving any patches between appointments.  After a couple waxes your hair will be in the same cycle.

How much does it hurt?: If you are concerned with pain management, taking an anti-inflammatory such as Advil about 30 minutes before your appointment will provide relief.  Some people think a wax feels similar to a rubber band snap.  If you are on any skin thinning medications or have used a tanning bed in the week prior, the pain will be heightened.  Brazilian waxes are more painful when you are experiencing hormonal changes during monthly cycles.

Clothing: Body waxes can be slightly irritating.  Wear (or bring) loose fitting clothing.

How Often?:  After your first wax, you should return roughly two weeks later to get the hair growth on the same cycle.  After you have regularly maintained your wax, it should last anywhere from three to eight weeks.

More Information:

  • The Green Tree Day Spa uses two types of wax for different areas of the body. Hard wax allows for fast, efficient waxing with gentle results for intimate areas. This stripless wax is formulated with revolutionary polymers for flexibility. This allows the technician to apply the wax in multiple sections without the fear of breaking. The wax adheres firmly to fine and coarse hair without sticking to skin and is heated at a low temperature to minimize irritation.  We also use honey wax, which is irritant free, fragrance free, and long lasting.
  • We do more than necessary to be 100% hygienic at the spa with clean facilities and practices.
